1, look at the pedicle flap
Mangosteen has petals (called pedicels) at the bottom, usually 4-8 pieces. The number of pedicels corresponds to the number of pulp pieces. The more pedicels, the more pulp pieces. Therefore, Mangosteen with more pedicels should be selected. However, mangosteen with eight petals is rare. If you see it, buy it.
2. Look at the color of the shell
The shell of mangosteen changes from green to red, which means it is ripe and edible. The order is bright red, dark purple and dark brown, the lighter the color, the fresher it is, but the bright red mangosteen is not sweet enough, and the dark brown mangosteen is too soft. Therefore, it is recommended to choose dark purple mangosteen, which has enough sweetness and strong meat.
3. Look at the color of the leaflets
The greener the leaf petal color of mangosteen, the fresher it is. Therefore, two mangosteens with similar shell colors should choose the one with lighter leaf petal color. If the color is brown or black, it means that it has been placed for a while and the pulp has rotted and turned yellow.
4. Look at the hardness of the shell
When picking, gently pinch the shell with your fingers. If you press the shallow fingerprint on the shell, it can be recovered immediately, which means fresh mangosteen. And the shell is hard and dry, and it can't be pressed like a stone. Most of them are too ripe to eat.
5. Weigh
If you want to know how to choose mangosteen, you can also choose two mangosteen with similar size. If one is light and one is heavy, the heavy one has more water, which is relatively fresh.
