Origin: China, Japan, Ryukyu and North America.
Distribution: Born in low mountain forests, ditches, wetlands near fields or grass in valleys. There are wild species in central and southern Taiwan Province, and Yangming Mountain, Xitou Mountain, Alishan Mountain, Taiping Mountain and Batongguan Ancient Road are quite common. It is cultivated as a vegetable in most parts of Taiwan Province.
