No inedible bamboo shoots have been found so far. There are eighty or ninety varieties of bamboo shoots, which are divided into bamboo shoots and winter bamboo shoots according to seasons. The common bamboo shoots are Phyllostachys pubescens, light bamboo shoots, hemp bamboo shoots, benevolent bamboo shoots, yellow bamboo shoots, bitter bamboo shoots and green bamboo shoots. It has the characteristics of high protein, low fat, low starch and multi-fiber, and is rich in protein, amino acids, fat, sugar, calcium, phosphorus, iron, carotene and vitamins.
Bamboo shoot, a perennial evergreen plant of Gramineae, is native to China.
Like warm and humid climate, it can grow on the banks of streams and beaches with deep soil layers and slightly acidic or neutral soil, and at the foot of hills below 500 meters above sea level. Generally, it is required that the annual average temperature is ≥ 17.5℃ and the extreme low temperature >; -6℃, annual precipitation in 1400 mm or more. Only under the conditions of less frost and short low temperature in winter can we overwinter.
Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan Province, Guizhou, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei and other places are all planted.
