Changzhou Biji Lane is located in the west of Changzhou, near the canal. It is the seat of ancient piling post, formerly known as "Huashi Street". Changzhou has been famous for making grates and wooden combs since ancient times. Known as "the famous comb in the palace" and "Changzhou comb is the best in the world", every household here makes a living by making combs. When Qianlong made a southern tour, he landed at a nearby piling post and entered the city. Seeing that the streets are full of workshops and shops that produce and sell combs, he named this place "Comb Lane". In modern times, Changzhou dustpan and wooden comb also won silver and gold medals at the second international exposition in San Francisco and Philadelphia respectively. The heroine in the American movie "Angel of the Stars" used Changzhou combs as a chest ornament, and former Indonesian President Su Jianuo also brought two Changzhou combs as souvenirs when he returned home. Su Dongpo, a great writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, once said: "Comb your hair for more than a hundred times, and you will wake up in the morning."
There is a tall archway at the corner of Biji Lane in Changzhou, on which are written three big scarlet letters "Big Wharf". As the name implies, this is the location of the Grand Pier. In the Ming Dynasty, the piling post was located in this alley, which was specially designed for officials and officials who transported official documents to stop to rest or change horses when passing through the local area. The piling post in Qing Dynasty was called Huanghuating, which was the Jiangnan Dagang after Jinling Gang at that time. There is the Huanghua Pavilion next to the Grand Pier, which is the tallest of the three official pavilions along the Grand Canal in ancient Changzhou.
