There are many bundles of white cotton wax filaments at the end of the abdomen of the broad-winged wax cicada larvae, which extend in a fan shape, like a proud peacock. Wax silk covers the back of the body to protect the body, and it can also cover their bodies. It is a good camouflage, which can reduce the invasion or swallowing of natural enemies. It will bite when it falls on you. Adults and larvae like to suck juice on shoots, buds and leaves, which affects the growth of branches.
There are also many kinds of broad-winged wax cicadas. Some species of larvae are not white, and the shape of wax filaments is slightly different, but they all have cotton-like wax filaments.
