First, the nature is different
1, monohydric alcohol
Generally, alcohols are colorless liquids or solids, monobasic n-carbon alcohols containing less than 12 carbon atoms are liquids, and 12 or more are solids. Monohydric alcohols are soluble in organic solvents, and alcohols with less than three carbons are soluble in water.
2, dihydric alcohol
Like all alcohols, they can react with organic or inorganic acids to form esters.
3. Ternary alcohol
Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and toluene. Flammable. Non-toxic
Second, different alcohols
1, monohydric alcohol
Monohydric alcohol, that is, alcohol containing only one hydroxyl group in the molecule.
2, dihydric alcohol
An alcohol with two hydroxyl groups in its molecule is called a diol. Generally, two hydroxyl groups are not on the same carbon.
3. Ternary alcohol
Polyether triol is also known as trihydroxypolyether and polyoxypropylene triol, commonly known as glycerol polyether, with an average molecular weight of 3000~7000.
Third, the application is different
1, monohydric alcohol
Lignol (methanol) is obtained from dry distillation of wood, citronellol is obtained from reduction of citronellal, nerol exists in neroli oil, and glycol (ethylene glycol) is named because of its characteristics of alcohol and glycerol.
2, dihydric alcohol
Polyethylene glycol (PEG), a polymer of ethylene glycol, is a phase transfer catalyst and also used for cell fusion.
3. Ternary alcohol
Used as toughening agent for epoxy resin adhesive.
