Ferritin is a soluble tissue protein that stores iron in the body. Normal human serum contains a small amount of ferritin, but different detection methods have different normal values. Generally, the normal average value for men is about 80-130ug. /L (80-130ng/ml) for women, about 35-55ug/L (35-55ng/ml).
The reason for the increase in serum ferritin is an increase in the source of ferritin or a clearance disorder. For example, when suffering from liver cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, leukemia, etc., the ferritin synthesized by cancer cells increases, causing the serum ferritin to rise. When suffering from liver disease, liver cells are damaged and their function decreases, causing serum ferritin to increase.
The symptoms of high ferritin include the following:
1. Since liver cancer is cancer of liver cells, there will be dull pain in the liver area or intermittent dull or distended pain. Upper abdominal distension and pain, etc.
2. The symptoms of liver cancer in the early stage are very hidden, often just loss of appetite, upper abdominal distension and fatigue, and B-ultrasound examination will show mild hepatomegaly.
3. Symptoms such as weakness in the limbs, weight loss, general weakness and easy fatigue, and often bedridden in the middle and late stages.
