Pomacea canaliculata (scientific name: Pomacea canaliculata) is a mollusk belonging to Ampullidae and Ampullaria. Shells are similar in appearance to snails. It has a spiral shell, the color of which varies with the environment and snail age. It has luster and several thin longitudinal lines, and the head and abdomen protrude when crawling.

The head has two pairs of antennae, the front antenna is short, the rear antenna is long, and there is an eye on the outside of the base of the rear antenna. There is a thick lung straw on the left side of the snail. The adult shell is thick, the shell is 7 cm high, the young shell is thin, the suture line of the shell sinks into a shallow ditch, and the navel of the shell is deep and wide.

Ampullaria gigas likes to live in fresh water with fresh water quality and sufficient bait, and many groups inhabit the shallow water area near the pool. It is an omnivorous snail with a wide feeding habit. It mainly feeds on duckweed, vegetables, melons and fruits, etc. It especially likes sweet food and carrion of animals in water.

It is native to tropical and subtropical areas in Central America, such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Widely distributed in more than ten countries such as North America, Asia and Africa, it has become a world-wide alien invasive organism.

The State Environmental Protection Administration of China listed Ampulla canaliculata as one of the major invasive alien organisms in agriculture.
