The goby is a general term for all goby species in the goby family. Each of them has its own name, such as "pygmy goby" and "common goby". Although they all look silly, and most of them are short, only a few centimeters long, they are the largest family of fish, with more than 2 100 known species.
Gobies and gobies are distributed in coastal waters of the world except Antarctica and Arctic, especially in tropical and subtropical waters, with the largest number, and some species can adapt to fresh water life.
A prominent morphological feature of goby is that its ventral fins are integrated into a whole, forming a sucker-like structure. This structure is very suitable for the intertidal environment. When big waves hit, gobies and gobies can be tightly attached to rocks or other fixed objects without being washed away.
The biggest feature of goby is its short life span. There is a goby living in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and its life span is only 59 days! Of course, this kind of fish grows fast, too. They can grow into adults within three weeks, mate and lay eggs, and then die.
The goby's diet is very diverse, and the eggs of smaller fish, shrimp, worms and other fish are all goby's food. [ 1]
