Sending Xin Jian from Hibiscus Tower
Tang: Wang Changling
The cold rain enters Wu at night and sends the guest to Chushan alone at Pingming.
Luoyang friends and relatives are like asking each other, a piece of ice heart in a jade pot.
Translation
The cold rain of the fall and winter season poured over the rivers and skies of the Wu land all night long, and when it was dawn to send off a good friend, only the lonely shadow of the Chu Mountain was left behind.
When I arrive in Luoyang, if my friends and relatives ask me about me, I will tell them that my heart is still as pure as the ice in a jade pot, unsullied by worldly sentiments such as fame and fortune.
Looking south of Danyang City, I can only see the cloudy and rainy sea of autumn; looking north of Danyang City, I can only see the deep clouds of the Chu sky.
The Hibiscus building to see you off, the mood of sadness, drinking can not enjoy. The surrounding area is silent, to the cold river sky, only the high hanging bright moon shines in my heart.
Appreciation
The time and scene of sending off in these two poems are "flashbacks". The first one is about seeing off a friend at the riverside on the next morning; the second one is about bidding farewell to a friend at Hibiscus Tower on the first night.
The first song is about sending off a guest at Pingming, and about the farewell.
The first line, "Cold rain enters Wu at night". The word "cold" refers to the autumn rain, and the river is full of rain. The first line, "Cold Rain and River Entering Wu at Night," refers to the author and Xin Jian arriving at Runzhou at night, which belonged to the state of Wu in ancient times, so it is said to be entering Wu. At that time, Wang Changling was the prime minister of Jiangning (present-day Nanjing), and he departed from Jiangning to send his friend Xin Jian to Runzhou, where they parted, and Xin Jian went to Luoyang alone. The meaning of this sentence is that we came to Runzhou on a night when the autumn rain filled the river. The description of the scene of "the cold rain on the river" renders the bleak atmosphere of parting, and implicitly writes out the author's bleak mood.
The second sentence, "I'm sending off my guests to the lonely mountains of Chu at dawn". Pingming refers to dawn, the guest refers to Xin Jian, Chushan refers to the mountains of Chu, Xin Jian's journey to Luoyang will pass through Chu, here, "Chushan" refers to his whereabouts. The meaning of this sentence is, the day just dawned, I'll see you off on the hibiscus building, looking at the mountains of Chu, one feels lonely, "Pingming" takes over the "night" of the previous sentence, and writes out the haste of the parting, the night comes together, and breaks up at dawn, too late to roam around in this place, it's It is regrettable. "Chu mountain lonely" this scene, i.e., write out the Chu mountain towering, but also write out the author due to the departure of friends, and the lonely mood, can be described as a scene of blending of the pen.
The last two lines, "friends and relatives in Luoyang, a piece of ice in the jade pot". It refers to the author's instructions to his friends on the occasion of parting with them. Luoyang refers to Luoyang City in Henan Province, a famous political, economic and cultural city during the Tang Dynasty, where there are the author's friends and relatives. The word "ask" means "ask you"; "ice heart" describes a person's heart as clear as ice; "jade pot" means a pot made of jade. During the Sixth Dynasty, the poet Baozhao used the phrase "as clear as ice in a jade pot" (《代白头吟》) as a metaphor for a noble and pure character, and the jade pot here is also used as a metaphor for a pure character. The meaning of these two lines is: after you arrive at Luoyang, if your friends and relatives there ask about you and me, you can tell them that Wang Changling's heart is still like a piece of pure and clear ice in a jade pot. There is a background for the author to entrust Xin Jian to bring such a sentence to his friends in Luoyang. At that time, the author was criticized by mediocre characters and received several relegations because of his unconventionality. Here, it is obvious that the author is making a retort to those slanderous words, as well as making a confession to the friends who know him best. It shows the spirit of refusing to compromise.
As early as the Liu Song period of the Six Dynasties, the poet Baozhao used the phrase "as clear as a jade pot of ice" to compare the character of purity and innocence. Since the Kaiyuan Chancellor Yao Chong made the "ice pot commandments" since the Sheng Tang poets such as Wang Wei, Cui Hao, Li Bai and other poets have been to the ice pot of self-motivation, respect for the bright and open, the surface of the character of clarity. The message that Wang Changling asked Xin Jian to bring to his friends and relatives in Luoyang was not the usual peace and quiet bamboo report, but conveyed his own belief that he was still pure and clean and insisted on his integrity, which is of great significance.
The poet's metaphor of a crystal clear jade pot is based on the true understanding and trust between him and his friends and relatives in Luoyang, which is by no means a confession to clear the name of slander, but rather a self-reputation in defiance of slander. Therefore, the poet from the clear and flawless, clear and empty bottom of the jade pot to hold a bright and pure heart of ice in order to comfort his friends, which is more than any lovesickness words can express his deep affection for friends and relatives in Luoyang.
It is the **** same characteristic of Sheng Tang poems to have a deep feeling and a soft and soothing one. This poem's vast river and rain and the lonely mountains of Chu not only emphasize the poet's cold and loneliness when bidding farewell, but also show the poet's open-mindedness and strong character. Standing in the middle of the river and the lonely mountain and the ice heart in the jade pot than the image of the formation of a kind of intentionally or unintentionally, people naturally associated with the poet's lonely and proud, the image of ice and jade, so that the exquisite conception and the deep intention of the melting in a clear and empty and clear mood, so the natural and complete, without traces of the implicit and implied, and the rest of the rhyme is infinite.
The second song is about the poet's farewell to Xin Jian at the Hibiscus Tower on the first night. The first from the "autumn sea yin", "Chu snow deep" to write, to the scene to rise. The third sentence is the theme: sending off a guest from a high building, regretting to say goodbye, feeling sad, and not enjoying the wine. The last line of the poem is about the scene: the cold river is silent, and the melancholy is like the endless river water; the bright moon shines high, and the friendship is as pure as the bright moon. The whole poem into the scene, the scene of love, mainly or lyric, can be called a great.
