Peel a pineapple at home

The most important thing when peeling a pineapple is to peel off the unpleasant, rough skin and dig out the sharp spines. Unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this other than to waste some pulp.

1. Cut off the bottom of the pineapple so that it can stand upright on the cutting board, and cut off the peel vertically from top to bottom in a large area. The peel should be cut off to a certain thickness to remove as much of the pineapple spine as possible.

2. Use a sharp-edged fruit knife to dig out the pineapple spines remaining in the pulp one by one. The depth of digging should be sufficient each time. If there are still sharp thorns, you might as well dig out some more pulp around them.

After digging and peeling off the spines, you can slice them and eat them.

The following is how to take out the pineapple flesh directly without peeling it. This is usually used when making pineapple cups.

1. Place the pineapple flat on the cutting board, hold the big end, and use a sharp knife to cut off the top with leaves. If you want to use the empty shell as a container, leave the top to serve as a lid.

2. Use a sharp fruit knife to cut the pineapple evenly between the peel and pulp. Note that a small amount of pineapple flesh should be left inside the shell to give the shell some thickness and make it strong.

3. Turn the pineapple over and cut off the bottom so that the shell can stand up steadily and evenly. In this way, you can easily separate the pineapple flesh and pineapple shell.

4. Insert the fork into the pineapple flesh, hold the pineapple shell firmly with one hand, and pull the pineapple flesh on the fork out of the shell. Cut the pineapple into slices. The shell is reserved for other uses.
