Chicken claw pear, also known as Guaijiao, Guaizao, Linqin, Wanzi pear, Wanshou fruit, Wanwei fruit, golden hook, chicken spatula, wood honey, pear jujube, knotted meat, and wolfberry etc., belongs to the Rosaceae family and is a woody plant. Deciduous tree, more than 20 meters tall: young branches, undersides of young leaves, petioles and inflorescence rachis initially have pubescence and then fall off.

Hovenia dulcis is native to China and is distributed in many provinces in mainland China. It grows in areas with an altitude of 100 meters to 2,100 meters. It mostly grows in bushes on hillsides, valleys and hilly areas.
