Grouper, belonging to the order Perciformes, with an elongated oval body slightly laterally compressed. The mouth is large, with auxiliary maxilla, teeth fine pointed, some enlarged into canine teeth. The body is covered with small pectinate scales, sometimes often buried under the skin. Dorsal and anal fin spines well developed. The caudal fin is rounded or concave. The body color varies a lot, often brown or red, with stripes and spots, and it is a warm-water large and medium-sized marine fish. The grouper is a hermaphrodite, with sex change characteristics. The grouper prefers to inhabit in the rocky, gravelly, coral reef substrate near the coastal islands, generally not in groups.
