Walrus skin color turns dark and red. When a walrus comes out of the water, its skin looks white, but after a long time, its skin color gradually darkens and turns red.

Walruses can show different skin colors in different environments. Under normal circumstances, walrus' skin is brownish yellow or brownish gray, but when it sinks into the sea, its skin will turn gray.

This is because, as a species living in polar regions, walruses must learn to deal with the biting cold water. In water, walrus constricts blood vessels, making blood flow only under the subcutaneous fat layer, so that it can reduce the loss of heat, and the gray skin at this time is the color of its subcutaneous fat layer.

In summer, when walruses bask in the sun on the rocks by the sea, the blood vessels in their bodies will expand because of absorbing heat, making their skin reddish brown.

Walruses are gregarious animals, living an amphibious life in cold seawater and ice on land, and each group can range from dozens, hundreds to thousands. In order to recover the fatigue after swimming in the ocean for a long time, most of the time on land is to sleep and rest, and sometimes to stagger with fangs and short hind legs.
