The Intangible Cultural Heritage of Zhejiang Shengzhou includes the craft of making Shengzhou xiaolongbao (small dumplings), Shengzhou bamboo weaving, Shengzhou bamboo weaving, and bone and wood inlay.
1, Shengzhou Xiaolongbao Making Craft
Shengzhou Xiaolongbao is not only ranked the first place of the world's 20 most delicious foods by CNN, but its making technique was also selected in January 2023 as one of the sixth batch of Zhejiang's provincial intangible cultural heritage representative projects.
2. Shengzhou Bamboo Weaving
Beginning more than 2,000 years ago during the Warring States period, the craftsmanship of Shengzhou Root Carving was already refined during the Han and Jin Dynasties, and the level of weaving was further improved during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, making bamboo weaving a popular household item.
On May 20, 2006, Xiazhou Bamboo Weaving was approved for inclusion in the list of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages.
3. Shengzhou Root Sculpture
Shengzhou Root Sculpture, after entering the new century, has been attracting attention for its long history, profound accumulation and unique artistic personality in the blossoming Chinese Folk Art View Garden. 2007, Shengzhou City was named the "Hometown of Root Art in China", and 2008, Shengzhou Root Sculpture was approved to be included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. In 2008, Shengzhou Root Carving was approved to be included in the protection list of intangible cultural heritage of Zhejiang Province.
4. Bone and Wood Inlay
Bone and wood inlay covers a wide range of categories and is highly practical, including traditional furniture, daily necessities, and architectural decorations for doors and windows. Commonly used themes are mostly historical stories, folklore, life customs, and the two immortals, plum, orchids, bamboo and chrysanthemums, etc. with auspicious symbols of the main pattern, and the traditional culture of the Chinese people, colorful content.
Commonly used bamboo species in Shengzhou bamboo weaving:
1. Maozhu, also known as Nanzhu, Mengzhongzhu and Catheadzhu. The material of moso bamboo is hard and strong, not easy to crack, straight texture, good performance, the most widely used in the craft bamboo weaving, can be woven to make a variety of uses of bamboo products. Because of its thick walls and strong fastness, moso bamboo is often used as the skeleton of bamboo weaving products, such as clips, handles, feet and chassis.
2, early bamboo. Early bamboo texture straight and smooth, tough material, strong tension, can be split into thin bamboo wire. Bamboo silk is easy to dye and bleach, but the bamboo joints are brittle and easy to crack, commonly used in popularized products and mid-range product weaving.
3, water bamboo, also known as "smoke bamboo". Water bamboo fiber fine, both soft and strong, tight grain, flat bamboo joints, can be split more fine bamboo wire, color is also purer than the early bamboo, is a good material for weaving, commonly used in patterned picture weaving.
