He wanted to make a critical Qing palace drama for the audience that was different from the original one. The play is adapted from the novel "The Legend of Zhen Huan in the Harem". The story itself is about the fictional Zhou Dynasty. After the adaptation, it chose a "grounded" approach. Screenwriter Liu Lianzi watched "The Golden Branch" and felt that although the plot was brilliant, the etiquette was not rigorous enough. She began to write a palace story of her own at home, hoping to take into account all aspects of plot, history and etiquette.
