Zuo Zongtang:

This resolute, tenacious, and ambitious Hunan man faced internal and external troubles, and was "tired of troops, poor pay, lack of food, and difficult transportation", but he was full of confidence. There was no retreat in the war to regain Xinjiang. Under the snow-capped Qilian Mountains, the strong wind rolled up the banner, and Zuo Zongtang carried his coffin and moved forward bravely. This is not a decisive battle in the ordinary sense, this is a war to safeguard national dignity. The soldiers on the battlefield were in high spirits and regarded death as if they were home. This is a fight for the unity and integrity of the motherland, so the cold blood becomes boiling and the coward turns into an angry lion with red eyes. Zuo Zongtang was proud of the Hunan children who charged into battle in the bloody storm, pursuing and defending the spirit of war, and actually reshaping their own national spirit. A year later, all of Xinjiang was recovered. This is the most proud event in the history of the late Qing Dynasty, and the most glorious thing in the sunset pictures of the late Qing Dynasty
