At present, the main ecological types of cultivated carrots in the world include Amsterdam type (Amsterdamer), Berlicum type (Berlicumer), Nantaise type (Nantaise), Danvers type (Danvers), Colmar type (de Colmar) ), Chantenay, Pariser Market, Imperator and Kuroda (Stein and Nothnagel, 1995) (Figure 3-1). Among them, Nantes and Kuroda types are the most widely cultivated carrot types in the world. Nantes is a medium-long cylindrical carrot type, mainly distributed in Europe and Asia, accounting for about 2/3 of the world's cultivated area. The Kuroda type is a medium-short, blunt-tapered carrot type with high yield and good adaptability in warmer areas. It is mainly distributed in Asia, South America and Africa. Emperor carrots are mainly distributed in North America and Australia.

Carrots are widely cultivated in China. After long-term domestication and cultivation in various places, a large number of local varieties with different ecological types have been formed, such as Jiangsu Changhong, Shaanxi Touxinhong, Hejin Xinxinhuang, etc. According to the existing collected and preserved local variety resources, most of them are in Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Guizhou and Shandong provinces, accounting for about 50% of the total. In recent years, the varieties used in China's production are mainly the Kuroda type introduced from Japan and South Korea, as well as Nantes, Chantenay and other types and their local varieties formed after long-term domestication and cultivation. Varieties, such as Zhengzhou Red, Shaanxi Touxin Red, etc. At present, breeding units have also launched some new carrot varieties, such as Zhongjia No. 1, Orange No. 1, Jinhong No. 1, Hongxin No. 1, etc.
In terms of export quantity and value, carrots have risen to fifth place among China's various export vegetables. According to data from the "China Agricultural Yearbook" (2002, 2003), the provinces with larger export quantities and amounts are Shandong, Guangdong, Fujian, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu and Inner Mongolia. From 2003 to 2004, China also gradually developed and formed four major carrot export processing bases: Xiamen Xiang'an in Fujian Province, Shouguang and Laixi in Shandong Province, Weichang in Hebei Province, and Jining Wusutu in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Achieve carrot exports all year round.
