Black and white seeds of loofah have their own advantages. White-seeded loofah and black-seeded loofah are different varieties of the same family. They both have strong fruiting properties. Black-seeded loofah has strong disease resistance, and medium-sized loofah has strong disease resistance. It matures late, while white-seeded loofah matures early. In terms of aroma, the black-seeded loofah has tender meat, while the white-seeded loofah has thick meat.
The fruit of luffa contains saponins, luffa bitters, light, large amounts of mucus and citrulline. The seeds contain cucurbitacin. The juice of loofah contains saponins, mucus, xylan, fat, protein, and vitamins. The whole plant of Cantonese luffa has insecticidal effect. The fruit is very toxic to fish. No rotenone has been found, but it does contain hydrocyanic acid.
