Hui nationality originated from Arab and Persian merchants in the Middle East, as well as Muslim soldiers from Central Asia in the Yuan Dynasty, and later merged with other ethnic groups in China. These Muslims are called Hui, which is also the origin of the name of Hui. Hui nationality is a minority with a large population in China, which is distributed in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is its main residential area.

The ethnic origin of the Hui nationality can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty.
