Humans have used a lot of spices since prehistoric times, and there is no written record. Archaeologists have found important records of human ancestors eating spices in their lives from hieroglyphs on the pyramid walls and Christian bibles, thus inferring its long history.
Edible spices are one of the earliest trade projects of mankind and an important part of the evolutionary history of ancient civilization. The cultural exchange between the East and the West also started from the spice trade. In Zhufanzhi written by Zhao Runan in the Southern Song Dynasty, cloves, peppers, pearls and agates are listed as international trade commodities.
Quanzhou, Fujian Province is the starting point of the world-famous Maritime Silk Road and Spice Road. A large number of spices were found in the sunken ships of the Song Dynasty excavated in Quanzhou in the 1970s, most of which were spices.
