Boeing B-52 subsonic long-range strategic bomber (English: Boeing B-52 long-range subsonic jet-powered strategic bomber, nicknamed Stratofortress) is an eight-engine long-range strategic bomber developed by Boeing Aircraft Company of the United States, which is used to replace the B-36 bomber in strategic bombing missions. 1948 put forward the design scheme, 1952 made the first flight of the prototype, and 1955 batch production began to be put into use, and eight types including B-52A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H were developed successively, 1962.
There are 76 B-52 aircraft in active service, which is still the main force of strategic bombing of the US Air Force. The US Air Force now plans to let the B-52 serve all the way until 2050. This makes the service time as high as 90 years. One of the reasons why the US military is willing to keep the B-52 in service is that the B-52 is the only type of US strategic bomber that can launch cruise missiles.
