Northerners eat jiaozi, southerners eat rice cakes, and Zhuang people eat zongzi. Zongzi is regarded as "aristocratic" food by Zhuang compatriots, and is called "Nianzong", which is used to worship ancestors or entertain guests. Zhuang people have been eating zongzi for thousands of years. Generally, it takes two days to cook a pot of zongzi, but this year's zongzi is different from what we usually eat.
A female zongzi weighs more than ten kilograms and can feed a family for several days, while a male zongzi is similar to the usual zongzi.
Zhuang people's dumplings are rich in stuffing. In addition to glutinous rice, they also added fat pork, chestnuts, lotus seeds, peanuts, mung beans, Chinese cabbage, mushrooms and other ingredients. One of the most important ingredients is fat pork. Pay attention to the fatter the better. After the fat is steamed, it slowly flows out of the fat oil and penetrates into the glutinous rice. It tastes delicious and waxy.
However, the Zhuang people will not eat such delicious zongzi on New Year's Eve, but on the first day of the New Year when they worship God and have guests come to our house. The unique charm of Zhuang culture is really distributed in every corner.
Guangxi Zhuang people kill pigs:
The Han people's annual ballad "On the 26th day of the twelfth lunar month, kill pigs and cut the meat for the new year", but in Zhuang people's homes, it is generally on the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month, which is a prelude to the Chinese New Year. In order to kill the Year Pig, the Zhuang people made preparations early and carefully raised pigs six months in advance. When the time came, they began a festive "Year Pig Killing" activity.
When the pigs can't be eaten for a while after being killed, the Zhuang people will clean the remaining pork, cut it into long strips with a knife, put on seasoning and hang it on the doorman or by the fireplace. The older generation also smoked bacon with bagasse, which made the smoked bacon taste the best. Whether it is used for frying or steaming, it tastes good.
