History of military ranks
Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Chinese People's Liberation Army proposed to implement a military rank system twice, once during the Second National Army in the early days of the Anti-Japanese War. During the period of political cooperation, one was after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the negotiations between the two parties in Chongqing. The military ranks formulated twice were the same as the military rank system of the Kuomintang army at that time. However, due to the constraints of the environment at the time, the military rank systems formulated twice could not be implemented.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in order to strengthen the regularization and modernization of the army, the issue of implementing a military rank system was quickly put back on the agenda. When the Management Department of the General Cadre Department was established in September 1950, the "Military Rank Reward Office" was set up. In the winter of 1952, we began to study the issue of the military rank system. On November 26, 1952, in its report to Chairman Mao Zedong and the Military Commission, the General Cadre Department formulated a preliminary plan for the preparations for the implementation of the military rank system and other issues. In 1955, the Chinese People's Liberation Army formally implemented a military rank system. After that, the military rank system of the Chinese People's Liberation Army went through cancellation, restoration and multiple modifications.
