The differences between Baotou and Olive vegetables are: different subclasses, different distributions, and different growth habits.
1. Different subclasses and subjects
1. Baotoucai: subclass Acanthus, order Lebiflorales, Brassicaceae.
2. Olive vegetables: subclass Rosa, order Sapindaceae, family Olivaceae.
2. Different distributions
1. Baotou: distributed throughout China.
2. Olive vegetables: distributed in southern China, Southeast Asia, and Japan.
3. Different growth habits
1. Baotou: prefers mild, moist and sufficient light. It is more cold-resistant and has the ability to adapt to high temperatures. The suitable growth temperature is 15-20℃. If the fleshy stem encounters high temperatures above 30°C during the expansion period, the fleshy stems are prone to fibrosis. The choice of soil is not very strict, but it is suitable for planting in humus-rich clay loam or sandy loam. Seedlings must undergo vernalization at 0-10°C, and then bolt, bloom, and bear fruit under long days and moderate temperatures.
2. Olive vegetables: They like warmth. They need moderately high temperatures during the growth period to grow vigorously and produce good results. The average annual temperature is above 20°C. Areas without severe frost damage in winter are most suitable for their growth. They can tolerate short periods of time in winter. The temperature is as low as minus 3℃ for a long time, but severe freezing damage will occur when the temperature drops below 4℃. It can grow normally in areas with rainfall of 1200-1400 mm.
It has wide adaptability to soil. It can be cultivated along rivers, hills and mountains, red and yellow soils, and gravel soils. It can grow well as long as the soil layer is deep and well-drained.
