Guizhou Vocational and Technical College of Light Industry is (GuiZhou Institute of Light Industry) approved by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government to set up higher vocational education institutions, the school for the national high-quality specialized higher vocational colleges and universities, Chinese characteristics of the construction of high-level institutions of higher vocational colleges and universities, the national modern apprenticeship pilot units, Guizhou Province model high-level vocational colleges and universities. The school is a national high-quality specialized higher vocational college, a high-level higher vocational college construction unit with Chinese characteristics, a national modern apprenticeship system pilot unit, a demonstrative higher vocational college in Guizhou Province, a national key construction base for vocational education and teacher training, and the fourth Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Outstanding School.
The predecessor of the school is the First and Second Light Industry School of Guizhou Province, which was built in 1978 and 1979 respectively as the provincial and national key secondary vocational schools, and was approved by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government in February 2004 to merge and change its name to Guizhou Light Industry Vocational and Technical College.
As of October 2021, the school campus covers an area of 1,000 acres, with a building area of 370,000 square meters; there are 7 departments, 3 departments and 1 institute, with 25 majors for higher vocational enrollment, and more than 15,000 full-time higher vocational students; there are more than 700 full-time and part-time teachers.
