This poem is "Early Making Baidicheng", a four-line poem written by Li Bai, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, when he returned from exile in 759. This is one of Li Bai's most widely circulated poems. This poem describes the Yangtze River from Bai Di to Jiangling, with fast-flowing water and ships flying.

Early in the morning, I bid farewell to Jiangling city, which is high into the sky, thousands of miles away, and the boat is only one day away. The cries of apes on both sides of the strait are still unconsciously crowing in their ears, and the canoe has passed the heavy green hills.

In the morning, the morning glow is all over the sky, and I am about to embark on my return journey. Looking up from the river, you can see the colorful clouds around Baidicheng. For example, in the clouds, Jiangling, thousands of miles away, will arrive in one day.

The cries of apes on both sides of the strait are constantly echoing. When the ape's crow was still ringing in his ears, the brisk boat had crossed the endless mountains.

Creation background

This poem was written in March 759, the second year of Tang Suzong Gan Yuan. In the spring of that year, Li Bai was exiled to Yelang because of the Li Lin case in Wang Yong, and went to a relegated place via Sichuan. When I went to Baidi City, I suddenly received the news of pardon, and I was pleasantly surprised. Then I went to Jiangling by boat. This poem was written when the ship returned to Jiangling, so the title of the poem is "Bai Di goes to Jiangling".

Predecessors once thought that this poem was written by Li Bai when he went out to Shu in his youth. However, according to the poem "Jiangling is a thousand miles away, and Li Bai once traveled from Jiangling to the Three Gorges, this poem should have been written when he came back.
