Coconut crabs are considered big inside crabs, so how deadly are their pincers?
The Japanese have experimented with 29 individual coconut crabs at Ocean Expo Park on the northern island of Okinawa, Japan, using steel pressure sensors to test the clamping force of their pincers, which ranged from 30 to 1,800 newtons in different places. But 1800 Newtons is not the maximum force, because the strength of coconut crabs has a lot to do with their own weight. According to this rule, a coconut crab weighing 4 kilograms will have a clamp force of 3,300 newtons.
