It should be judged by the total number of white blood cells. If the total number is large, the low proportion of neutrophils is relative, which is caused by the increase of lymphocytes. If the total number of white blood cells is normal or low, it is caused by neutropenia.

Generally speaking, the increase of lymphocyte ratio is the most common in viral infection (bacterial infection is neutrophil increase) and can also be seen in immune system diseases.
