Spearfish family ? Latimeriidae ? Spearheads of the genus Latimeria ? Latimeria ? Ancient fishes of the class Carnivora

The picture below shows ? Latimeria chalumnae (Latimeria, Coelacanth)

First appeared 377 million years ago when it evolved and was extremely abundant on Earth. Coelacanthus fossils were found from the late Permian (295 million years ago) to the early Cretaceous (144 million years ago). The coelacanth genus, like other fish of its kind, is less ossified and shows a general tendency to move away from early freshwater environments to a marine lifestyle. Coelacanths were long thought to have become extinct about 60 million years ago, but in 1938 a living species, the speartail (Latimeria chalumnae), was caught in a net off the coast of southern Africa. A second was caught in the Comoros Islands in 1952 after a reward was offered.
