A: Schistosomiasis, also known as Schistosomiasis Japonicum or Schistosomiasis Japonicum, is a serious parasitic trematode caused by Schistosoma Japonicum parasitic in small vessels of portal vein system of human, cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents and many wild mammals. Animals usually don't show symptoms in clinic. Generally, the symptoms of yellow cattle are heavier, while those of buffalo, sheep and pigs are lighter, and horses generally do not show symptoms. When a large number of cows or calves are infected, they usually go through an acute process. It is characterized by depression, elevated body temperature, diarrhea, mucus and blood in feces. Late anemia, edema and emaciation may eventually lead to failure and death.
