Outside the cottage, beside the ancient city [5], the sticks and quinoa slowly turn to the setting sun [6]. Diligence last night, it rained at night, and it was cool for a day.

At the end of the lush forest in the distance, there are towering mountains. Near the house surrounded by bamboo forests, there is a small pond full of decaying grass, and cicadas are dazzling. White birds fly by from time to time in the air, and the red lotus flowers in the pond exude fragrance.

In the countryside, near the ancient city wall, I wandered slowly with a stick of quinoa in my hand, and it was sunset in a flash. Last night, it rained a little rain diligently, and today it can make the wandering people enjoy a cool day.

Creation background

This word was written in the sixth year of Yuanfeng, Song Shenzong (1083). At that time, Su Shi had been living in Huangzhou (now Huanggang, Hubei Province) for three years. Political blows and career setbacks made him feel sad at times, which led to the idea of being happy. With regard to the specific writing time of this poem, we can see that it was written at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn in Yuanfeng's sixth year by analyzing the writing time of this poem, such as lush bamboos, cicadas everywhere, red flowers shining on the water, and cool weather after rain.

This wall courtyard is the poet's residence. Near the courtyard, there is a pond. Due to drought and water shortage, withered grass grows all over the ground. Cicadas are everywhere, and the cries are in a mess, which makes people restless. In these two words, seven kinds of scenery, such as forest, mountain, bamboo, wall, cicada, grass and pond, are described, which is so large that it is rare in classical poetry. The scene presented here is very different from the one described by the poet Xi Ning when he was the magistrate of Xuzhou for ten years (1077). At that time, the words written by the author were: "The leaves of hemp are shining layer by layer, and whoever cooks cocoons is fragrant." Why do poets describe such scenes? It turned out that when the poet was in Xuzhou as a magistrate, his achievements were outstanding and he won the hearts of the people. Therefore, the ci he wrote at that time was full of positive spirit. Later, he suffered a blow and was demoted to Huangzhou, where he served as an assistant to Yong ying. He was in a very difficult situation and was forced to live a retired life, so he was depressed and depressed. It is no wonder that his lyrics have become so sad and desolate.

Three or four sentences have a deeper meaning. From the point of view of words and expressions, these two sentences are beautifully described: in the vast sky, from time to time, Bai Niao is seen flying up and down, flying freely, full of lotus flowers, reflecting green water and emitting soft fragrance. The artistic conception is so fresh and elegant that it is quite poetic. "Hong Hong" is another name for lotus. "Delicate fragrance" means that the fragrance emitted by lotus flowers is not a strong fragrance, but a pleasant light fragrance. If it is not for other reasons, such a realm is indeed a paradise for self-cultivation. However, for the poet, he is not content with the status quo and has a heart to linger here. Although he painted a picture of Bai Niao's empty sky and red lotus shining on the water, it can't be compared with his admiration of the beautiful scenery of Hangzhou West Lake that "light makeup is always appropriate". Probably the world has forgotten me for a long time, and only God still thinks of me and rains "the third night rain" for me. Therefore, the word "attentive" also hides the infinite emotion of the poet. "It's cool to be alive again" is the most revealing sentence in the word. "Floating life" means that life is erratic and is a negative philosophy of life. The article "Zhuangzi Deliberately" said: "If his life is floating, if he dies, he will rest." Su Shi's negative thoughts are influenced by Zhuangzi's thoughts. The word "You" in "It's a cool day" is very heavy and plays an important role in revealing the theme.
