Hexi Steamed Rice
It is a traditional and famous delicacy unique to Weicun Town in Linfen, Shanxi. There are hundreds of years of historical heritage. The color is golden and the taste is soft, waxy and sweet. It is an authentic folk snack that extends beyond the Fenhe River in the east, Pu County in the west, Tumen Town in the south, and Hongdong in the north. Whenever there are weddings, funerals, or banquets in this area, Hexi steamed rice and steamed noodles are served for breakfast.
The main ingredients are millet, red dates and red kidney beans.
There are many processes for making steamed rice. Soak the millet in water for 6-7 hours. Also soak the red kidney beans in water for 6-7 hours, cook it in a pot and set aside; Put iron rice on the iron pot; put steamed rice slices, a layer of millet, a layer of kidney beans, a layer of red dates, and steam for three hours. After taking it out of the pot, use the steamed rice geduo (a wooden ball with a long handle) to crush it back and forth, stir evenly and then eat it. The taste is soft, waxy and sweet. You can add an appropriate amount of sugar according to your personal taste.
You can also cut the steamed rice into cakes according to your personal taste, fry it in oil until golden brown, sprinkle with sugar and serve on a plate.
