1. Caohai: Caohai is the most famous and distinctive scenery in the area. Caohai was originally a structural lake formed on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau due to special geological structures. However, due to the special local geographical environment, the lake was filled with various wild aquatic grasses.
These aquatic plants do not affect the water quality. On the contrary, the local ecological environment has been preserved very well without human interference. Due to the rich aquatic plants, abundant fish and shrimps, and the relatively stable weather in winter, this place has become a paradise for the nationally protected black-necked crane to spend the winter. Therefore, Caohai was established as a national nature reserve by the State Council in 1992. It is close to Weining County, and it only takes about ten minutes to walk from the center of the county to Caohai.
2. Baicaoping: One of the highest altitude areas in Guizhou, it is a very famous plateau grassland. The largest wind power generation area in Guizhou is concentrated here, where you can see herds of cattle, sheep and windmills. Of course, we need to be reminded that the weather on the plateau grassland is unpredictable, with sudden rains and sunny spells, and ultraviolet rays are very strong on sunny days.
3. Mazhuo Mountain: A part of Baicaoping, which I have only seen from a distance. When the weather is clear, you can see windmills from a distance, which is very spectacular.
4. Shimenkan: Many people have heard of Shimenkan because it is poor and backward. As everyone knows, this was once the cultural holy land of the Hui ancestors and the Mecca in the hearts of many Hui people. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Shimenkan was one of the areas with the most splendid Hui culture in the country. However, with the development of the times, its location in a corner and inconvenient transportation caused its gradual decline. In previous years, there wasn’t even a cement road accessible. Visiting here is not only to visit the former holy land of the Hui people, but also to see how many children in China live.
5. Mosques: There are many Hui mosques in the local area. Most of them in the county have a short history. If you want to find one with a long history, you still have to ask the locals. Mosques are also places for Hui children to attend classes and study, but they are not necessarily open to the public. If you want to visit, you must ask first and do not enter casually.
6. Yi, Miao, Hui: It is also very interesting to visit the local ethnic customs. However, after more than ten days of observation, I found that the situation of local ethnic minorities being sinicized is quite serious. Therefore, it is best to visit during national festivals. Of course, if you can find some quaint places on your own, that's another matter.
Local delicacies:
1. Weining buckwheat cake: Buckwheat cake is a crispy cake made from buckwheat noodles. There are more than ten different flavors, and there is always one that suits you. , I think if I eat one or two occasionally, the taste is still good. However, buckwheat cakes are fragile and not suitable for carrying over long distances.
2. Hui cuisine: various beef and mutton delicacies. I have always felt that the Hui people are a religious nation, especially about food. Therefore, I generally feel more at ease if I eat at an authentic Muslim restaurant. At least I won't give you some unknown meat. When going to the local area, you still have to taste the authentic Hui characteristics and feel the difference between it and the Hui flavor in the northwest region.
3. Ham and bacon products: Ham and bacon are available in most areas of Guizhou, but they are especially abundant in Weining. Most of the companions who taught with me were from Guizhou, but they all bought some ham to go back. My personal suggestion is to buy something to eat first and then decide whether to buy it or not. Personally, I think it's a bit greasy and not quite to my taste.
4. Potatoes (potatoes), pineapples, walnuts, and mountain delicacies: these are essential in plateau and mountainous areas. Potatoes are the daily favorite of Guizhou people, but the ones produced in Weining are the most famous. If you go, you must try various ways to eat potatoes. At the same time, due to the abundant sunshine on the plateau, the local fruits are naturally more fragrant and sweet. Be sure to try the fresh seasonal fruits when you go there.
