Beihai belongs to Guangxi Province and is a prefecture-level city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is located at the southern end of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and on the northeastern coast of the Beibu Gulf.
It is 206 kilometers from the capital Nanning to the northwest, 198 kilometers from Zhanjiang, Guangdong to the east, and 147 nautical miles from Haikou City, Hainan to the southeast.
