Jacaranda is native to Brazil. It likes warm and humid climate and plenty of warm sunshine. Later, it was introduced to southern China and widely planted. It is very popular among the public because of its charming blue petals. In May 2020, Jacaranda was recognized as a famous tree in Xichang City.
When flowering, the color is blue or blue-purple, the flowers are tubular, the inflorescence is spike-shaped, and the flowers are large, which are distributed on the branches like purple waterfalls. Jacaranda likes light, so it should provide enough sunshine to promote bright colors during flowering, and the temperature should be kept between 22 and 30 degrees.
Cultivation method of jacaranda
Jacaranda is a tall tree, and its requirements for soil quality are not very high. As long as it is loose and fertile sandy loam or ordinary soil, it can grow well. Full sunshine can be maintained in spring, autumn and winter to ensure sufficient light, and it can shade at noon in summer at high temperature. The demand for fertilizer is not very high. Generally, the fertilizer can be supplemented once after flowering and before bud.
The temperature of the breeding environment is preferably around 22 to 30 degrees, and the temperature within this range is more conducive to its growth. Don't fall below 15 degrees in winter, otherwise it will stop growing. The trunk of jacaranda is erect and slender, with few branches. When the tree is 3 meters high, it should be pruned in early spring, and the trunk height is 2.2 ~ 2.5 meters, which can effectively promote the growth of branches. In the future, it will be pruned and reshaped once a year in early spring to form a good crown with many branches and flowers.
