1. Xiao Duanmeng

Xiao Duanmeng (1515-1554), whose courtesy name was Qi and whose nickname was Tongye. A native of Kuo, Chaoyang County, Chaozhou Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty (now part of Chaoyang District, Shantou City). In 1540, he passed the Gengzi Provincial Examination. In 1541, he was awarded the Jinshi title of Xinchou Ke in Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty and was awarded the title of Shujishi of the Hanlin Academy.

2. Chen Beike

Chen Beike, whose original name is Chen Yu, also known as Dongshi, is known as Chen Guojiu in the world. He is a native of Huamei Village, Guiyu Town, Chaoyang County. Chen Beike is an outstanding representative of the Chaoshan people. He was elected in the second year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty. In the sixth year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1511), he was promoted to Jinshi. He was awarded the title of Hu Ke to Shizhong. He later served as the Shaoqing of Dali Temple and the Minister of Huangmen. He once toured the south of the Yangtze River with Emperor Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty.

3. Zhou Guanghao

Zhou Guanghao (1536-1616), courtesy name Guoyong and nickname Gengxi, was born in Taoxi Township, Chaoyang County, Chaozhou Prefecture (now Shantou) in the 15th year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty. Taoxi Township, Chaonan District), he was promoted to the imperial examination in the 41st year of the Jiajing reign, and became a Jinshi in the 5th year of the Longqing reign (1571). He was awarded the title of official of Ningbo Prefecture in Zhejiang Province, and served as director of affairs for the three counties of Xiangshan, Fenghua and Cixi.

4. Tang Boyuan

Tang Boyuan (1540-1597) was born in Xianmenli, Suwandu, Chenghai County, Chaozhou Prefecture in the Ming Dynasty (now part of Chenghai District, Shantou City). A great Confucian and Neo-Confucianist in the Ming Dynasty, he was born as a Jinshi. He became the head of the household department in Nanjing in the Ming Dynasty, served as a doctor in the department, and served as Shangbao Sicheng. He believed in Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism and opposed Wang Shouren's new Neo-Confucianism, which is the so-called "Xin Xue".

5. Xiao Zhuoji

Xiao Zhuoji (December 4, 1933 - November 14, 2017), a native of Shantou, Guangdong, a famous economist, a well-known social activist, Peking University Professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Economics, author of 16 monographs including "The Biography of Marx", "The Biography of Engels", "Selected Works of Xiao Zhuoji", "Long Discussion on Stock Finance".
