Introduction Yuanmou Earth Forest is located in Yuanmou County, Chuxiong Prefecture, 201 kilometers north of Kunming.

Tips for visiting the earth forest: Earth forest is a natural landform type formed due to long-term water erosion, and is mostly composed of sand and clay.

There are also abundant animal and plant fossils in the soil forest, such as huge petrified oak trees, saber-toothed elephants, Chinese rhinoceros, saber-toothed tigers, etc., which were accumulated in the early Quaternary period two million years ago.

The sand and clay of the soil forest contain a small amount of calcium cement, occasionally mixed with some iron combinations.

Because these soils have continuously absorbed, expanded, lost water, and shrunk over the long years, the ground has cracked. In addition, rainwater has washed and flowed along the cracks. Over time, the cracks have gradually deepened, widened, and lengthened, and the soil columns have gradually become exposed and increased.

Thus an earth forest was formed.

The quartz, agate and other materials mixed in the soil pillars will reflect a strange brilliance under the sunlight after being washed away and exposed.

Xinhua Earth Forest and Banguo Earth Forest are currently undeveloped and there is no charge for the time being.

Transportation Chuxiong West Passenger Transport Station has shuttle buses to Yuanmou every day. At present, the expressway from Wuding to Yuanmou has been fully opened to traffic.

It is about 140 kilometers from Chuxiong City to Yuanmou, and it takes 4 hours to drive to Yuanmou County.

After arriving in Yuanmou County, there are two Tulin Tourism Special Buses (minibuses) going directly to Hutiaotan Tulin Scenic Area at 9:20 and 15:30 every day, and the journey takes about 30 minutes; however, the 15:30 bus is the same day

Do not return to Yuanmou County.

If you don't catch the tourist bus, you can take a taxi to Tulin Scenic Area at the "traffic light" in Yuanmou County (you can ask locals to guide you at the "traffic light" in Yuanmou County).

Xinhua Earth Forest (Langbapu Earth Forest) and Banguo Earth Forest are currently undeveloped, and there are no direct vehicles to enter the scenic area. You need to charter a car or drive yourself there.

Kunming-Yuanmou: Trains from Kunming to Chengdu, Xichang, and Panzhihua will basically stop at Yuanmou Railway Station. Most trains can reach Yuanmou in about 4 hours.
