The name of the food street has been changed many times. From the earliest "East-West Street" to "Commercial Street" to "West Street of Shopping Mall" to the last "Food Street", although the name is constantly changing, the position of food street in Zibo's business circle can never be ignored. Although the commercial map of Zibo has already expanded a lot to the north and west, the food street is still an indispensable part of the commercial map of Zibo.
The book "Ancient Rhyme of Huang Sang" records that Zhangdian was originally named "Huang Sang Store", which was named because there were many yellow mulberry trees planted in the area. In ancient times, Huang Sang Store was an important node on the official road connecting Jinan Prefecture and Qingzhou Prefecture. Because of its special geographical location, many carriage shops have appeared in Huang Sang's East-West Street for a long time. This East-West Street is the earliest commercial center of Zhangdian, and it is the predecessor of the food street.
The food street has become the most important commercial center in Zhangdian in the 196s or even earlier. "The food street in the east and west, the West Second Road in the north and south, this is the most prosperous area of Zhangdian in that year." Geng Diangang recalled that the business in the food street had been quite large as early as the 197s. On the second day, eighth day, twelfth day, eighteenth day, twenty-second day and twenty-eighth day of the lunar calendar, Zhangdian's big gathering always attracted vendors from all directions, which was the main place for Lao Zhang's shop people to purchase daily necessities. From the intersection to the east, they mainly sold chickens and livestock, while at the intersection, there were many blacksmiths and tin pots, and they went west.
The historic change of the food street took place in 1991. When Zhangdian began to rebuild the old city, the food street also began to rebuild. According to the plan, the new food street is flanked by two-story buildings. In order to rebuild the food street, four surrounding villages began to move. On September 4th of that year, the completion ceremony of the Food Street was held, which became a major event in Zhangdian District and even Zibo City. Yang Chengwu, former vice chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Zhao Zhihao, then deputy secretary of Shandong Provincial Party Committee and governor, attended the completion ceremony and cut the ribbon. At that time, the Food Street, with a total construction area of 28, square meters and an investment of nearly 24 million yuan, was the food and cultural center in Zhangdian area. According to relevant people's memories, the construction of the food street was to welcome the convening of the Taoliu Fair, so Zhangdian Daji was transformed into a rare food street in northern China. "At that time, the combination of Chinese and Western architecture, the original sculpture, and the delicious food in the north and south were sensational and famous."
In November, 1991, Li Peng, then Premier of the State Council, accompanied by relevant leaders of Shandong Province, visited Zhangdian Food Street and praised it for doing well. This made many people in Zibo feel proud at that time. At that time, commercial enterprises in Zhangdian District, tertiary enterprises in the district authorities and so on opened restaurants in the original site of Zhangdian Daji, which formed a thriving snack culture and gradually established the status of a food street.
