The Chinese New Year is coming soon, and this year we are going back to grandpa’s house to celebrate the New Year.

We took the train in the early morning of February 7th, and we didn’t arrive at my grandpa’s house until the afternoon.

Although there are still ten days before the Chinese New Year, I saw a busy scene.

Everyone is preparing for the New Year. Early in the morning, grandpa took the vegetable basket to buy fish, meat, beef... After buying it, he made homemade sausages. The uncle was still frying the peanuts grown in his own land, and the elder brother went to the street to buy Spring Festival couplets, firecrackers, and fireworks.

My aunt also opened a stew pot to stew vegetables, kelp, lotus root... Dad would kill chickens, and my mother and I would post the Spring Festival couplets of the two families and the door gods. Posting the door gods is to prevent the invasion of the Nian beast. After posting the Spring Festival couplets and door gods, we would wash the kelp.

, lotus root... We have never done this in Changsha before. We always go to the supermarket to buy ready-made ones, and we are so friendly with our neighbors here!

Because there are very few houses next to each other in the city, and even if they are, there is little intimacy.

Before having dinner, we had to worship our ancestors, so we carried firecrackers to grandma’s grave, burned paper money and set off firecrackers.

At my grandpa’s place, we have to gather ten dishes for the New Year’s Eve reunion dinner.

At the dinner table, we toasted to each other, and those who didn’t drink drank drinks instead of wine, blessing each other. In my memory, there were only three of us eating in Changsha, and we didn’t say blessings. After the meal, we started giving New Year’s money to each other.

Children, after dinner we all go out to set off fireworks and firecrackers... There are all kinds of fireworks and firecrackers here. On the first day of the new year, we juniors have to pay New Year greetings to our elders and give supplements and gifts.
