When most people are emotional, they often use food to comfort themselves. It’s like food is a cure for our emotions, it brings us a sense of security and comfort. Food will never abandon us and will always be our close companion. Therefore, some obese patients have a strong dependence on food, but they do not realize that they have deep emotional problems and psychological trauma. Only when we understand and understand how to deal with these emotional issues can we be physically and mentally healthy and happy.
What does food mean to you?
The purpose of food itself is to sustain survival and enjoyment. People are born into a world of extreme insecurity from their mothers. The only thing that comforts us is food, which represents a sense of security. When I was a child, I was taught: "Be good and I'll buy you candy later." Things often represent rewards. For those who don't get enough love in life, food often represents love.
When you are deeply involved in emotional problems, eating is the most direct way to relieve them. In the experiment, an obese patient was locked up and given only a certain amount of food every day. It was discovered that when he was unable to express his emotions through overeating, he would gradually develop other behavioral patterns that indicated the underlying problem. Therefore, in order to fundamentally solve the obesity problem, we must first find the deepest understanding: What is food substitution?
Safety
Some inner emotions that cannot be forgiven, forgotten or let go make you want to gain a sense of security through constant grabbing. Food will replace security. You will be satisfied by eating. The body feels safe because it has something to keep hoarding. For example, someone who is subconsciously feeling an emotional crisis may suddenly eat a lot to compensate for their insecurity.
Unconditional Acceptance
When people don’t want to face themselves, they will try to escape external pressures and things, and even want to isolate themselves from the outside world, including their feelings. Food has become an ally in isolation from both the outside world and within. Eating makes people feel accepted, and eating constantly makes them feel numb both internally and externally. Such people usually don't know their weight and figure, and don't even like to look in the mirror.
Reward
Eating is one of the few psychological rewards when people feel inferior and cannot be rewarded elsewhere. Food creates a signal that is neurally linked to reward and makes them feel temporarily confident through eating.
Love and Possession
When people feel lack: emptiness, loneliness and irritability cannot be relieved, they long to fill their stomachs. At this time, food represents more and more food, and people often don't feel full. Hunger means that the "sick body" is hungry, the memory of the body's cells and emotions is hungry. The guilt that often accompanies meals also adds to the inherent sense of deprivation.
When you see that you are controlled by food, food is actually fulfilling some inner need. You will have the confidence to make the decision not to be manipulated by food.
These are some of my personal views and opinions on this issue!
