County Overview: Location and Area Huize County is located in the northeast of Yunnan Province, on the east bank of the Jinsha River, and in the northwest of Qujing City. It is located between 103°03′~103°55′ east longitude and 25°48′~27°04′ north latitude.

It borders Xuanwei City and Weining County of Guizhou Province to the east, Zhanyi County and Xundian County to the south, Dongchuan District and Qiaojia County to the west and Huili County of Sichuan Province across the river, and Ludian County to the north.

The county's maximum horizontal distance from east to west is 84 kilometers, and its maximum vertical distance from north to south is 138 kilometers. Its land area is 5,854 square kilometers, of which 95.7% is mountainous.

The county seat is Jinzhong Town, with an altitude of 2120 meters, 254 kilometers away from Qujing City and 205 kilometers away from the provincial capital Kunming.

Historical evolution: The name Huize comes from the confluence of several waters including the Jinsha River, Niulan River, Xiaojiang, and Yili River within the territory.

It has a long history of development. In the sixth year of Jianyuan of the Western Han Dynasty (135 BC), Tanglang County was established and belonged to Qianwei County.

In the Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Gongzhou.

Tangxing County was established in the early Tang Dynasty.

Nanzhao established Dongchuan County.

The Dali State established the Governor of Dongchuan.

In the Yuan Dynasty, it was Dongchuan Road.

In the Ming Dynasty, it was Dongchuan Prefecture.

In the fifth year of Emperor Yongzheng's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1727), it was renamed to Yunnan Province, and Huize County was established in Qiaojia, which was moved to Zhongping the following year.

In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Dongchuan Prefecture was abolished and renamed Dongchuan County; in 1927, it was restored to Huize County.

In 1947, it belonged to Qujing Special Administrative Region.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was transferred to the Zhaotong Special Administrative Office; in October 1958, Huize County was withdrawn and merged with Dongchuan City; in December 1964, Huize County was restored, and it was renamed to the Qujing area until now.
