According to the Yang Jiajiang Romance, Mu was the main force of Liao. Therefore, when Mu was alive, Liao did not invade the border. Later, Xixia began to covet the Song Dynasty and invaded the border many times. At this critical moment, it was easy for the imperial court to think of Yang Jiajiang, but many years later, Mu Guiying was over 50 years old. For the sake of national territorial integrity, she accepted the order of the imperial court and led a group of women surnamed Yang to the battlefield to resist the invasion of Xixia army.

The female general of Yangmen fought with the main force of Xixia in Tiger and Wolf Gorge. This place is easy to control, but difficult to occupy. Mu Guiying decided to check the actual situation and then deploy troops. However, in this operation, Mu Guiying was ambushed by the Xixia army. Under the command of General Xixia, Mu fired thousands of arrows in succession, but was unable to retreat because the cliff was ambushed. He was shot dead on the spot.
