Jiujiang Town was formed on January 10, 2005 from the integration of the original Jiujiang and Shatou towns.

After the merger, New Jiujiang is located in the southwest of Nanhai, close to Xiqiao, Shunde, Gaoming, Heshan, Xinhui and other towns, covering an area of ??94.75 square kilometers, with a registered population of 102,000 and a migrant population of 84,000. It has 5 community committees.
