The 47-square-meter grandma’s house surrounded by eggs has been transformed into a golden house for seniors to live in.

Owner's Story

This case is a unit building located next to the Confucius Temple in Nanjing. This old house has a total area of ????two bedrooms and one living room, with a total area of ??47 square meters. This is the home of Grandma, the founder of the famous delicacy "Grandma's Spiced Egg" in Nanjing's Confucius Temple. Grandma is famous for her spiced eggs, but her home is very simple. Not only are there piles of eggs in baskets, but they also use a briquette stove to cook tea eggs, which is extremely unsafe. How will the designer make the production and living functions of this home both independent and integrated?

Highlight 1: Dirty corridors turned into bright corridors

Before the renovation, three old-fashioned briquette stoves occupied most of the space in the corridor. Burning briquettes not only The walls were smoked into disgrace, and the carbon monoxide levels in the home seriously exceeded the standard.

After the renovation, the aisle turned into a bright and clean corridor. On the walls on both sides of the corridor, the designer also made a large photo wall, where all the precious moments of grandma’s spiced eggs over the past 40 years have been left here.

Below the photo wall, the designer also installed a long handrail to facilitate the elderly people walking together.

Highlight 2: The bedroom and egg storage are completely separated

Before the renovation, in addition to some simple furniture, the 20-square-meter bedroom contained dozens of boxes or even more. Hundreds of boxes of eggs. It can be said that life is full of eggs. In order to preserve eggs, the air conditioner cannot be turned on for heating at home even in winter.

After the renovation, this space was re-planned into two spaces: the living room and the bedroom. After the renovation, the storage space in the entire room was as high as 20m2.

The cabinet on one side of the living room can also be moved, so that the seating space in the booth is larger. This is a dining room for the whole family, which can be used for family reunion dinners.

Highlight 3: The layout of the small bedroom is more reasonable!

Before the renovation, this room of only 9 square meters was the bedroom of my grandma and grandson. After placing a bed and a wardrobe, there was not much space.

After the renovation, the designer adjusted the spatial pattern, separated the sleeping area and living area, and made the circulation more reasonable. The bed box can also be partially removed and used as a bedside table or as a seat.

Highlight 4: Transform a small kitchen into a spacious kitchen!

Before the renovation, the kitchen space was small and could only accommodate one person working inside.

After the renovation, the designer removed the partition wall between the kitchen and the living room, forming a relatively open kitchen area. At the connection between the open kitchen and the living room, the designer made a hanging glass, which can effectively block oil fumes.

Highlight 5: Clean and tidy bathroom

Next to the kitchen is the bathroom, with handrails, seats and other facilities to assist the elderly. At the same time, the designer also separated the sink and wet area to facilitate the use of the elderly!

Highlight 6: Independent tea egg production room

The designer built a 12-square-meter small house opposite grandma’s house into a professional spiced egg production room Production and processing rooms. The application of egg crushers, large refrigerators, smart storage racks, and exhaust fans make the processing process more convenient. The designer specially retained the coal stove, and used fire-proof and moisture-proof ice and fire boards to enclose the surrounding area.
