Introduction to Tianai Cake

Ai cake, also called Tian Ai cake, is commonly known as (Tian Ai cotton cake) in Leizhou dialect.

Every year during the holidays, people would always pound mugwort (motherwort) picked from the fields into juice, add sugar water, mix it into glutinous rice flour and knead it into a ball, then wrap it with stuffing made of chopped peanuts, white sesame seeds, and white sugar.

Place pineapple leaves (jackfruit leaves) on it and steam it.

It is also made in Wuchuan. They use salted radish shreds, add sausage, sesame, peanuts, tangerine peel, and shredded coconut as stuffing. The rice flour is added with mugwort velvet. After steaming, the mugwort cake is oily and shiny, and dark with tincture.

With the green light of mugwort, you can peel off the leaf pads and put them in your mouth while they are still hot. Your mouth will immediately be full of fragrance, and sugar gum will overflow the corners of your mouth. The aroma of various fillings plus the fragrance of Tian Ai and pad leaves will make you want to eat it again.
