Jumping fish is one of the traditional famous dishes in Tianjin. It comes from Tianjin Fang Tianyi Restaurant and has the reputation of "the first square in the world". Fang Tianyi Restaurant was opened in 1879 (the fifth year of Guangxu reign). It is located in Xinkai Road, Hongqiao Hutong, Tianjin, and features Tianjin-style dishes. However, it was abandoned several times and its business was suspended. In 1980s, Tianjin catering industry reopened Fang Tianyi restaurant. At present, Fang Tianyi Restaurant is located in the Hutong business district of Sanchahekou of Haihe River.
