When it comes to the dangers along the Sichuan-Tibet line, in addition to uncontrollable natural factors such as natural disasters, robbery is the most concerning topic for tourists visiting Tibet.
Many people will ask: Isn’t it said that Tibetan areas are a simple and holy paradise on earth? Why do robberies still occur in this land? Are Tibetans barbaric?
In fact, no matter it is a developed country or a developing country, a developed city or a backward city, robbery cases will still occur.
So, why are there robberies on the Sichuan-Tibet Line, and why do you encounter robberies. Along the way, I communicated with local fellow villagers and mainland friends who work and live in Tibetan areas all year round. The occurrence of robberies in Tibetan areas is caused by the following reasons:
1. The influx of tourist culture
The charm of Tibet lies in the integrity of its original ecology and the mystery of its national culture and religious beliefs. When the first person who entered the Tibetan area brought the beauty of Tibet into the public eye, the development of Tibetan tourism culture was enthusiastically pursued; everyone flocked there.
Due to the singleness of information channels and the kind-hearted extroversion of human nature, people always like to describe the life of Tibetans as poverty. Therefore, when tourists enter Tibet and see children in Tibetan areas, they will always take pity on them and give them some food or money. Slowly, the children are trained to ask tourists for food or money whenever they see tourists entering Tibet.
I remember once hearing an educated Tibetan fellow say, "I really don't like to see: when you come to us and see children, you give them food and money. Their current behavior of reaching out is because of you." These tourists develop it. Your inadvertent behavior makes them think that they only need to reach out for what they want without any effort on their own, which has a negative impact on their growth. If you really want to give, prepare some pens and notebooks. Stationery conveys to them the importance of learning. ”
In fact, Tibetan areas are like any other area, with cities and villages; rich and poor. Not every family is poor as everyone imagines. For poor families, we can donate love through normal channels and not let acts of kindness mislead their values.
2. Adults’ indolent behavior
Giving behavior misleads children’s values ??and develops the habit of being indolent and indolent from an early age.
This kind of incorrect values ??is reflected in the habitual robbery criminals in many places. They feel that obtaining daily necessities through legitimate means is time-consuming and laborious; they are more interested in obtaining material things for nothing. Then, only robbery is the fastest way.
Some robbing behaviors develop from asking for something in childhood to "having to give something" in adulthood; this is the so-called robbery. Therefore, robberies and thefts occur frequently in many areas.
3. Adults seek excitement
When I was working in a Litang inn, I heard local fellows mention that the robberies of adults that sometimes happened were not because the Tibetan fellows were short of money. The purpose of robbery is to seek excitement in life.
In Tibetan areas, girls do the farm work and housework at home, and boys don’t have to do anything except digging Cordyceps! Therefore, after the Cordyceps digging season, boys’ life becomes more monotonous.
For fun, they will gather 3 or 5 equally bored people to some sparsely populated road sections, especially unlit tunnel entrances, and wait for teams of only 2 or 3 people to rob. Therefore, this kind of robbery is random and accidental.
Therefore, when walking on remote roads, everyone must move forward as a group. The more people, the safer; this is one of the reasons why we have always asked everyone to follow the team to advance and retreat in unison.
4. Awareness of ethnic protection
Some friends will say that Tibetan people are barbaric, but many friends from other ethnic groups who work and live in Tibetan areas say that Tibetan people are basically very kind. .
The premise is of course that we must respect other people’s national culture!
Imagine this: A friend comes to your home as a guest. As soon as he comes in, he gets whatever he wants to eat and plays with everything he sees. You are watching an interesting TV program and he changes the channel without asking. Can you tolerate this kind of person?
This kind of people don’t respect other people’s culture when they come to other people’s territory, and they don’t follow the local customs.
After a long time, can people still be gentle to me? !
Therefore, when we travel to Tibetan areas, if we want to be safe and have fun, we must pay special attention to our words, deeds, and regional culture!
Travel, food, mood, essays, share interesting and fun stories together!
