Shanghai Southwest Yu Wei Middle School was founded in 1993. This is the earliest public complete middle school in this city. Shanghai Southwest Model Middle School was formally established on September 1997. This is a pilot school for restructuring. Its predecessor was Huicheng Branch of Nanyang Model Middle School. 1996, Xuhui district government decided to merge Changqiao Street into a newly-built unused public building supporting school in Xincun, and included it as a branch school of Nanyang Model Middle School.
