Jiangnan Series·Kunshan Jinxi (Water Town Jinxi)

A stream passes through the town, with peaches and plums on its banks. The morning glow and evening light sprinkle the water, and the stream is full of gold and brilliant like brocade ribbons, so it is named Jinxi.

This is the local chronicle's description of Jinxi's fame.

But Jinxi was not called that for a long time, but was called Chen Tomb. Legend has it that one of Song Xiaozong’s beloved concubines named Chen died here.

Concubine Chen fell in love with this beautiful scenery during her lifetime and had the wish to always be with the green water. Xiaozong felt her feelings, so she built an incense tomb to bury her bones, and built a lotus pond monastery by the lake to chant sutras and pray for salvation. This place became Chen's Tomb, which has been called Chen's Tomb for 800 years.

Time passed. In the 1990s, urbanization accelerated, and the name Jinxi was restored to Chen Tomb.

The symbols of the ancient town are the ancient lotus bridge and the lotus embankment. The bridge and the embankment are both corridor structures. They are laid out like jade belts, like colorful phoenixes about to fly. She embraces a pool of lotus water, which is beautiful.

Far away from it, Concubine Chen's water tomb rests on Wubao Lake, with rippling blue waves, green cypresses, eight hundred years of wind and rain, eight hundred years of ancient charm, and a wisp of fragrant soul telling the past eight hundred years.

Song Xiaozong and Zhao Yu were the second emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty. His name was changed many times, and there was a lot of frustration.

Zhao Jun was elected to the palace at the age of five and became the adopted son of Zhao Gou, Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty. In fact, Zhao Gou was only twenty-five years old at the time.

During the Jingkang Incident, King Kang Zhao Gou became the only member of the royal family to escape the hands of the Jin people. The mud horse crossed King Kang, and Zhao Gou went to the south to reorganize his power.

Unofficial histories say that Emperor Gaozong was so frightened that he lost his fertility and could only adopt a successor from the royal family. In this way, Zhao Shen, who came from the lineage of Song Taizu Zhao Kuangyin, became one of the candidates for the crown prince. Naturally, there were other competitions.

Moreover, Zhao Gou's life span is eighty years, and the variables can be imagined.

Zhao Shen slowly grew up in suffering. He witnessed the weird things happening in half of the country, and he longed to one day truly revive the Zhao family. The love story between Zhao Shen and Concubine Chen should have sprouted when the heir was still undecided.

In the 32nd year of Shaoxing, the "tired and diligent" Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty came to the throne as his adopted son. Zhao Shen finally ushered in the time to display his ambitions. After he succeeded to the throne, he immediately activated the veteran Zhang Jun and issued an edict to rehabilitate Yue Fei. He actively prepared for war and began to regain the old state.

Mountains and rivers.

The following year, that is, the first year of Longxing (1163), the Northern Expedition was launched.

The story of what happened between Zhao Yu and Chen Fei in Jinxi has not been recorded in history, but it is said by word of mouth from the people that Chen Fei helped her husband fight against the Jin Dynasty and did her best.

Legend has it that one time when Zhao Min lost his appetite due to the war, Concubine Chen learned how to make local pancakes from local villagers. Because the pancakes were not well formed, the pancakes became kidney-shaped.

When Zhao Hao woke up, he saw a pile of sock soles on the desk, exuding an alluring aroma.

Zhao Hao quickly asked what it was, and Concubine Chen joked that it was called crispy sock soles.

The delicacy of the ancient town, the sock-soled cake, has been passed down in this way.

After Concubine Chen died, Zhao Zong ordered lotus flowers to be planted next to the incense tomb and a Zen temple was built to express his condolences.

Chen Fei's water tomb has become a unique local landscape. No matter how high the water level in the lake is, the water tomb will always float out of the lake and sway green.

Wen Zhengming once wrote a poem: "Whoever sees the golden tomb under the water, the beauty is closed in the air with fragrant jade. The love of the king follows the flowing water, and wins the cold stream. The surname is Chen." Jinxi's surname is Chen, at the corner of Tianshui Street and Xiatang Street in the ancient town

There is a two-story building showing the vicissitudes of life. This building from the Republic of China period was the location of the Chen Tomb District Office, which was the highest administrative agency in the town at that time. There are two small bridges in front of the door, including the redwood bridge dating from the Tang Dynasty.

There is also the Tianshui Bridge that was completed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. These two bridges and other old bridges form the "Thirty-Six Bridges" of the ancient town. The world of the water town is inseparable from bridges.

Compared with Zhouzhuang and other ancient towns, Jinxi is slightly quieter. An uncle on duty at Puji Bridge told us that he specifically requested to be transferred from Zhouzhuang to Jinxi for the sake of the tranquility here. Under his guidance,

I saw an ancient tree on the river extending its branches, like a flying dragon gliding to the other side. The green leaves were like scales and claws, which was very lifelike.

Strolling through the old streets of the ancient town, you can feel the flow of time and space among the white walls and black tiles. I don’t know if the antiques sold in the second-hand antique shops are antiques, but there is a small shop that is selling something that still attracts my attention because it sells "National Football Team" stinky tofu.

.

We all have a friend on the green field. I heard that some things are better if they remain the same. Not every team can lose.

After visiting the ancient town for a long time, you naturally pay more attention to details. Every quaint flag and high-quality shop sign can evoke memories.

Most of the aborigines who maintain their traditional way of life are elderly. They sit or walk, enjoying themselves, commenting and saying soft words, which all reveal the tranquility of the years.

A quiet life requires a beautiful background and a strong historical heritage. Jinxi seems to have all of these.

A water town is like a poem, which does not have to be very long, but it needs to be written by generations of people; a water town is like a painting, which does not need to be very big, but it needs to be written by people from generation to generation.

Jinxi should be such a water town.
